The Mission of the Foundation is to preserve the history of the area; focus on the advancement of education of the park; restore historical packtrails and sites; and enhance use of Willmore Wilderness Park for Albertans and visitors alike.

Goals of the Foundation:

  • To find and restore traditional packtrails in the Park that were used by aboriginal people, trappers, guides and outfitters.
  • To create mapping of the traditional packtrails in Willmore Wilderness Park.
  • To find, preserve, and record through GPS the location of historical buildings.
  • To find, preserve, and record through GPS the location of traditional sites such as grave sites, campsites and other historical sites.
  • To preserve historical information: stories, pictures, photographs and other relevant information.
  • To create a written history of the area through the publication of books and pamphlets.
  • To provide workshops and seminars about Willmore Wilderness Park to increase public awareness.
  • To provide workshops and seminars on traditional activities in the Willmore Wilderness Park such as humane trapping, improving horsemanship skills, edible and medicinal plants, etc.
  • The Foundation has a strong focus to keep the traditional skills alive, which were used to survive in the mountains. Education programs have a special focus on teaching the youth—and the young at heart—old knowledge and the mountain way of life.
  • The Foundation benefits the community through bringing to life the trails, the stories, pictures and the creation of a forum for the advancement of education regarding Willmore Wilderness Park.
  • The Foundation is committed to ensuring that the Willmore Wilderness Act remains intact—as it was originally legislated.
