Historical Research
Research
Since the Willmore Wilderness Preservation and Historical Foundation began in December 2002, research has been central to its work.
We have interviewed dozens of Elders, mountain men, guides, trappers, trail cooks and other members of the mountain community, preserving their stories alongside photographs and other archival materials. Our collection also includes an extensive range of historical documents that help tell the story of the Willmore and surrounding region.
The Foundation has published four books featuring first-person accounts from the mountain community, available on our Store page, and produced dozens of documentaries sharing the region’s history. We have also worked with the Mountain Métis Community Association, contributing historical research and documentary information to its Credible Assertion Process.
Through our books, films, educational materials, and online resources, we make this knowledge accessible and help preserve the stories of Alberta’s Eastern Slopes for future generations.
